YOUR QUESTIONS
We answer your questions frankly.
Real answers on costs, timelines, implants and process — no fluff.
Process & eligibility
1. Submit your file online (free).
2. Neurothérapie Montréal contacts you within 2 business days.
3. If you wish to proceed, a medical file review is performed (CAD 700) by our independent scientific advisor and French partner surgeons. Requires MRI or CT under 12 months.
4. If validated, a surgery date is proposed within 3–8 weeks.
5. The stay in France (8–15 days) is coordinated end to end.
6. Post-op follow-up is provided in Quebec by Neurothérapie Montréal.
Eligibility depends on your condition and recent imaging (MRI or CT < 12 months). Surgeons assess case by case. In general, you can submit if you have a diagnosed or suspected condition and conservative treatments have not been enough.
Our surgeons cannot evaluate your case without imaging. MRI or CT older than 12 months does not reflect your current state. If you do not have one, still submit — we will guide you to Montreal imaging partners.
CAD 700 is due in all cases — with an important difference:
· If surgery proceeds: CAD 700 is fully deducted from the total.
· If surgery is not the right solution: it remains due. You retain an expert, documented medical opinion.
Costs & insurance
In two stages:
· Medical review: CAD 700 (required)
· Surgery cost: provided in the quote after review.
Indicative Canadian private pricing:
· Simple decompression: CAD 10,000–20,000
· Cervical disc prosthesis: CAD 28,000–45,000+
· Spinal fusion: CAD 40,000–80,000
Total cost in France (surgery + stay + coordination) is often equivalent or lower than Canadian private care — with implant options unavailable in Canada.
No. The quote after medical review is detailed and exhaustive for medical and coordination fees. Travel and lodging in France are yours to cover, but our team helps organise and optimise them.
Some Canadian private insurers recognise care abroad when local waits exceed 6 months and the condition worsens. Favourable factors: documented wait, proven clinical deterioration, failed conservative care. We help assemble the claim file.
No. Surgery in France is entirely at your expense. RAMQ does not reimburse elective surgical care abroad except in very exceptional cases.
Implants & techniques
In France, surgeons can use any CE-marked implant. In Canada, only Health Canada-licensed devices may be marketed — except via the Special Access Programme.
Result: TOPS, IntraSPINE, B-Dyn, Barricaid, LP-ESP are routinely used in France. None is licensed by Health Canada (MDALL, Sept 2026).
No. Three main families:
1. Simple release (no implant) — decompression, discectomy, endoscopy.
2. Motion-preserving implants — TOPS, IntraSPINE, B-Dyn, disc prostheses. None licensed in Canada (MDALL, Sept 2026).
3. Spinal fusion — permanent.
In Canada, the matrix quickly steers toward fusion. In France, Dr Dubois first assesses whether a Motion solution is possible. Only surgeons determine if you are a candidate for an alternative.
8–15 days depending on technique:
· Endoscopy / discectomy: 3–5 days
· TOPS, IntraSPINE, B-Dyn: 5–7 days
· Lumbar disc prosthesis: 5–8 days
· Complex multi-level: 7–10 days
Our partner surgeons practise in accredited French private clinics (Ramsay Santé, Elsan, HAS-certified). Franchir criterion: minimum 200 spine procedures per year per surgeon, sub-specialisation, publications and annual outcomes review. Advanced equipment (O-Arm, Loop-X, neuronavigation, 4K endoscopy).
The access route is the path taken to reach the treatment zone:
· Anterior (through the abdomen): lumbar disc prostheses, some fusions (ALIF).
· Posterior: TOPS, IntraSPINE, B-Dyn, TLIF, PLIF.
· Lateral (flank): XLIF and some endoscopic techniques.
Choice depends on anatomy, level and technique. Our surgeons also use intraoperative navigation.
Three invasiveness levels:
· Endoscopy: 1–2 portals of 1–2 cm, 4K camera, very fast recovery.
· MIS: 2–4 cm incisions, tubular instruments.
· Open: wider exposure, standard for complex cases.
Technique is chosen based on pathology and surgeon expertise.
